Presented by Akash Bhatia, MA, MT-BC, LCPC (he/him)
As healthcare workers, creative arts therapists have a responsibility to understand the context for systemic oppression in the United States and how oppression harms the people we serve. This presentation will conceptualize oppression using the frameworks of colonization and the medical industrial complex. This presentation will include a discussion how to provide anti-oppressive care in creative arts therapists’ clinical practice. Participants will define oppression, identify socio-cultural contexts for an anti-oppressive practice in the creative arts therapies, and discuss strategies for providing anti-oppressive care within the creative arts therapies.
